Ananda Yoga is in part, a way of bringing Hatha Yoga back "under the wing" of its parent science Raja Yoga. Its primary purpose is to raise one's consciousness; hence its full name: Ananda Yoga for Higher Awareness. In fact, Ananda Yoga goes well beyond being a school of Hatha Yoga; it includes not only asana and pranayama, but also meditation and the classical teachings of yoga philosophy.
